LEHIGH University Center Pub Renovation
Dec. 2023 - JAN 2025
The Clayton University Center is one of the most iconic buildings at Lehigh University. Commonly known as the University Center, or UC, it serves as a central hub for student life, featuring dining options, student lounges, and university offices.
Since the spring 2023 semester, the UC has been undergoing extensive renovations to transform it into a dynamic, state-of-the-art environment for students. The project aims to enhance student life while preserving the building’s historic character, setting Lehigh up for the next generation of students.
In December 2023, I was asked along two other students to work on designing two custom wooden tables for the renovated pub: one banquet and one for a private dining space.

For this project, I was drawn to the private dining table’s secluded placement and saw an opportunity to thematically reflect the building’s history while supporting future students. I incorporated reclaimed materials—10”x10” purlin beams and roof rafters from the original 1800s structure—aligning with Lehigh’s vision of preserving history in a modern context.
My priority was honoring the materials while ensuring an elegant yet pub-appropriate aesthetic. The purlin beam became the table’s legs, maintaining its structural role, while the roof rafters formed a butcher block tabletop, retaining original nail holes for character. Metal supports beneath echo the rafters’ structural function.
At the tabletop’s center, I incorporated the sun from the Lehigh crest, a fitting tribute that remains visible from all seats. The table is currently in production and will be installed in the UC in Spring 2025.
